Staying safe with crypto

Watch for scams

Be suspicious of anyone promising guaranteed returns, "doubling" your coins, or asking you to send crypto first. Fake support staff, fake exchange websites and impersonation on social media are common.

Protect your accounts

Use a unique password and two-factor authentication (2FA) on every exchange account. Only type the address of an exchange yourself or use a bookmark.

Protect your wallet

Your recovery (seed) phrase gives full access to your coins. Write it down offline, never photograph it or type it into a website, and never share it with anyone. See our wallet guide.

Choose platforms carefully

Check whether an exchange is registered and regulated before depositing money, and do not keep more on an exchange than you are prepared to lose.

Taxes in Norway

Gains from selling or trading crypto are generally taxable in Norway, and holdings must be reported. Keep records of your transactions and check current rules with the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten) or a tax adviser.
